WSL reputation takes a beating
With no information forthcoming from the World Surfing League's head office businesses in Krui were left to speculate if the Krui Pro would even take place in 2024. Now, finally, after 7 months of silence the WSL announced the event will take place in just a few short weeks.
Silence creates vacuum for negative speculation
The lead up to the 2024 Krui Pro has been a bit of a PR disaster. After a breakdown in event information sharing with local businesses the WSL's reputation has taken a beating. Rumors even started circulating this week that 2024 would be the final Krui Pro. That many Krui business owners feel this would be a good thing is a sure indication that there are issues around this event that need to be addressed.
The question on everyone's lips
Portions of the Krui accommodation sector are now concerned about the impact the Krui Pro is having on their revenue which relies heavily on advanced bookings.
Does 12 days of competition revenue for a handfull of Losmen make up for the greater peak season losses and risks to an accommodation sector already experiencing stress from a rapidly increasing oversupply?
Planning to surf the Krui area during the Krui Pro?
Media releases are promising the biggest event yet with 200+ competitors descending on the Krui area. Previous years have seen all the breaks from Way Jambu to Jimmy's Left dominated by amped up competitors who start arriving two weeks before the comp. Surf camps concerned about their guests experience are warning non-competitor surfers to stay away between May 21st and June 8th.
